Meta-analysis defines 3 human gut microbiome subtypes,

“defined three gut microbial communities or enterotypes that

are dominated by bacteria from either the Bacteroides, Prevotella,

or Ruminococcus genera.”

“We found that the combination of microbes in the

human intestine isn’t random…our gut flora

can settle into three different types of community – three

different ecosystems, if you like.” (corresponding author

Peer Bork)

The article also mentions bacterial genes associated with

age and weight.
