If even ONE state gets away with this – a LOT MORE are going to try and do the same – dang copycats… don’t have a brain to think for themselves! ~ Jan Jenson, The Wellth Coach

For those of you who live in Michigan are you aware of the law that is heading towards enactment that will severely restrict who can practice or (counsel in any way, no mater what you call yourself) nutrition in Michigan? The MI Dietetics Association got this bill passed four years ago in 2006, and a very dietician-friendly board has been working on establishing the specific rules under the law, since then. Fortunately there are two holistic CNC’s who are also RD’s on this board and they have been able to make the process take this long. (In fact the law states that only RD’s are eligible to sit on this rule-making board.) As in so many other states, the RD’s are attempting to hijack and monopolize the field of nutrition which they seem to feel should be theirs alone. It is very likely that final rules will pass this fall and then the whole thing goes to a public hearing.
The MI Nutrition Association (MNA) is a non-profit that is organizing and has been fighting to keep this law from taking effect. The law itself is so restrictive we don’t believe there is an acceptable set of rules that could be written under this statute. If you live or work in MI or know others who do, please visit www.MichiganNutritionAssociation.org Several states have successfully killed similar laws so that they were never voted in, but Mich is the first state that is fighting a bill that already passed the legislature but has yet to take effect. We believe we can successfully get rid of this law but we need MI professionals and consumers to get involved. I am on the board of MNA and would appreciate any MI citizens helping to defeat this law. There are multiple, easy ways to take action on the website. Thank you. I know everyone who is concerned about their continued HEALTH understands the ramifications of these kinds of laws.
