I did not expect the boost Cornplanter gave to the debate on the loop current, but wow, we have nailed it summarily. I exploded the claim that the North Atlantic ocean temperatures had fallen drastically, which was used to argue that it had failed and was causing dire conditions to set in. Obviously NOT. Then Cornplanter exploded the claim that the failure was a major historical anomaly….it turns out, Cornplanter discovered, that the loop current shifts unstably around and travels and sometimes can’t even be found. Pretty much, like all the other regimes of climate and tectonic activity on the planet, all conditions are in dynamic flux. Always have been, always will be, and the have the element of chaos, i.e., they cannot be very well predicted. Next year is always mostly ANYONE’S GUESS.
Let me add one more item to the fray. The Gulf Stream’s heat is actually substantially created by the flow of warm Equatorial Atlantic water past Puerto Rico and thence up the Atlantic Seaboard. That component probably keeps the Stream fairly stable and within a certain range of temperature. So even with a failure of the Gulf Loop current, the loss of heat into the Stream is not nearly as great as a limited perspective might have been led to believe.
Here ye now, I am totally convinced that nothing is currently to be feared on the topic of the climate and the Gulf Current. Not now, anyway. Forget it but watch how the environmental scare meme on this plays out. The meme will travel the iway for months until it disappears yet linger for many years in odd ball places. You, on the other hand, can smugly observe, knowing that the Phoenix Braintrust has some real attunement to what is happening and that we have developed some real intelligence to guide each other on this adventure.
P.S. I am VERY CONCERNED however about the chemistry of the oil and the corexit. This is the thing to really watch.
