“I think there is a good reason why the propaganda
system works that way. It recognizes that the
public will not support the actual policies.
Therefore it is important to prevent any knowledge
or understanding of them.”

The most common antibiotic residue found in the
flesh of slaughterhouse cows is LS-50. It is
illegal to treat dairy cows with LS-50.

On February 27, 2002, the Notmilk letter reported:

“LS-50 is an antibiotic made up of two other
antibiotics, Lincomycin and Spectinomycin.

“Dairy farmers use LS-50 to treat a condition
called footwarts. Very unpleasant. Very illegal.

“FDA works with a manual called the “Green Book.”
Here is the warning for use of LS-50, as written
in FDA’s Green Book:

“Do not use in female dairy cattle 20 months of age
or older. Use in this class of cattle may cause
residues in milk. Federal law restricts this drug to
use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian. “

In the days, weeks, and months following the posting
of the above column, I emailed, called, and met with
numerous FDA compliance officers and finally gave
up out of frustration after discovering that Monsanto
manufactures LS-50 and realizing that Monsanto’s
Washington, D.C. office (The FDA) was not about to
punish itself.

This week I was pleased to learn that FDA exposed the
illegal use of antibiotics by a New York State dairy
farmer. FDA’s March 26, 2010 Press Release:

Does FDA really care, or is this action just a federal
dog and pony show? A few years ago when faced with
dangerous antibiotic levels in milk, FDA’s Margaret
Miller (ex-Monsanto scientist turned FDA bureaucrat)
changed FDA’s antimicrobial policy by increasing
the permissible level of antibiotics in milk by
an astounding factor of 100 times.

This recent FDA action is a start, but if FDA applied
the letter of the law to all dairy farms, the milk
industry would simultaneously cease to exist.
